LOS ANGELES -- The Associated Press reports that DJ AM died in his New York City apartment Friday afternoon. Online reports say Friends called NYPD after not being able to get in contact with the DJ. Authorities reportedly had to knock down the door before finding him dead around 5:20 p.m. Born Adam Goldstein, DJ AM was a member of rock band Crazy Town. He went on to more fame as the DJ to several Hollywood celebrities.
DJ AM and Travis Barker was seriously injured in September of 2008 when the Learjet they were traveling in crashed during takeoff in Columbia, SC. Four others died in the crash. Goldstein was engaged to reality-tv star Nicole Ritchie. Both called off the engagement in 2005. He later dated actress/singer Mandy Moore who flew to his side after the 2008 plane crash.
