Why did you choose mirroring over striping? For data recovery purposes? I decided to go with a Raid 0 configuration on mine and use an external HD for nightly backups. I have 2 WD 10K RPM Raptors I use and switching to striping increased my performance dramtically. From the momnet I hit the power button until the moment Windows and all apps are completely loaded is 9 seconds. If you can afford some other method of backup I would definitely go with the Raid 0 configuration.

its definately for data recovery. ive lost tracks in the past do to a shady hard drive. this machine should be perfect performance wise i dont think tweakin it slightly will make much of a diff. My main goal was a cpu that would never get choked out like the athlon 2.2 i have now. If it does that she's all i need.

Raid 0 is a little more than tweaking slightly. It effectively cuts your disk I/O time in half. This not only helps when processing large files, but it also greatly increases page file swapout time.

I am not trying to tell you what to do, Steve, I am just offering another option since you have the hardware.

im going fo security over speed. the cpu is already fast as shit. also, if you stripe you may have a writing penaly from what my friend is telling me. its a brainless backing up of my whole system. we carefully analyzed the i/o activity of composing music and raid would not significantly increse my performance...

Interesting. I found that when running VSTs it significantly enhanced performance. Then again, I know you use Reason quite a bit and that doesn't eat up nearly as many resources as other VST's.
